Images Mammography Center at Trinity Health System is now one of 35 Certified Quality Breast Centers of Excellence in the nation. The National Quality Measures of Breast Centers offers a way for breast centers throughout the country to ensure they are providing the very best care for their patients. To be awarded designation as a Certified Quality Breast Center of Excellence, Images Mammography Center supplied data for 90% of the quality measures the NQMBC monitors and performed well above national benchmarks in these measures. The data was gathered and submitted to the NQMBC by RoseAnn Piofer, RN, Trinity Health System’s Certified Patient Breast Navigator, whose role is to assist patients with their breast diagnostic services and procure surgical and oncological consultations when needed.

“Images has been a comprehensive breast center offering screening mammography, diagnostic mammography, dedicated breast ultrasound with stereotactic and ultrasound guided core biopsies for many years. It is wonderful to have the center recognized for the quality work that is done every day,” said Dr. Hunter Vaughan, Medical Director of Radiology at Trinity Health System. In addition to the services provided at Images Mammography Center on the East campus, breast MR imaging and biopsy services are performed at the West Campus. All diagnostic services are performed under the supervision of a board certified radiologist who is dedicated to breast imaging. Another point of Trinity’s attention to quality is all of the technologists who perform mammography, breast ultrasound, and MRI are registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in their respective modality.

Tomosynthesis or 3-D breast imaging will be installed at Images on January 14, 2013. Tomosynthesis allows the radiologist to see thin mammography sections of the entire breast, which increases the accuracy of the diagnosis by seeing through the overlying breast tissue above and below the area of interest. “This new technology is very exciting. We will be able to detect small cancers earlier and determine if questionable areas truly need biopsied,” said Dr. Belen Vargas, Trinity’s dedicated mammographic radiologist.

Bone densitometry has been provided at Images Mammography Center since 1997 by technologists who are registered with the ARRT in bone densitometry performing the scans. A new DXA machine was installed this year ensuring accurate diagnosis is made. Trinity Health System is committed to offering state-of-art imaging services to all patients. Appointments for densitometry or breast imaging services may be made by calling 740-283-7440.
