Hours/Position Type: Full Time,
High school graduate or higher education. Must possess one of the following HIM credentials: CCS, RHIT, or RHIA.
Minimum of 5 years experience in Medical Record coding, demonstrating a thorough understanding of Anatomy and Physiology, coding guidelines, and critical thinking. Must demonstrate strong organizational skills relating to area function. Must possess interpersonal, leadership and team building skills. Experience with personal computers required. Experience in Encoder required. Previous coding leadership experience required.

This position is responsible for directing the Inpatient and Outpatient Coding functions of the Department. Ensures diagnostic and procedure information is accurate and entered or interfaced into the hospital billing system on a timely basis. Supervises audits of accounts to determine if coding is accurate and ensures that documentation supports coding and that the charges are captured. Identifies trends in coding and advises the Director of the impact on reimbursement. Develops coding strategies to meet revenue enhancement goals. Reviews Medicare regulations to ensure coding is in compliance with regulations. Reviews coding and abstracting software systems and implements encoding solutions. Develops training programs for coding staff as well as clinicians. Works with nursing and medical staff to improve the quality of documentation and coordinate an efficient billing and coding process. Routinely codes medical records, no more than 30% of time.
