Consider Lifeline

If you're one of today's 30 million adults who fall into the "sandwich generation" you probably know the stress which comes from juggling the responsibilities of work, home, family, finances, and caring for an aging or an ill parent.

With Lifeline, hundreds of thousands of families have found a way to care for their loved ones and have some relief from this stress! Lifeline is the personal response system which provides peace of mind and security, knowing that help is never out of reach.

The Facts

Family members' concern for aging parents or relatives is well founded. Statistics show that more than three million people over age 75, (that's one out of four people) will fall in their homes each year.* For many elderly, what begins as a simple fall, deteriorates into a life threatening injury simply because of the delay in getting prompt medical attention. Unable to get to the phone, these unfortunate people may lie on the floor for hours, often overnight, before they are found.

With the Lifeline Personal Response System, help is just the push of a button away!

Overcoming Resistance

Some people resist getting a personal response system. Most often it's because they deny that they will ever have trouble getting help in an emergency. Many people are fearful of giving up their independence. They refuse to admit a need for such services because it reminds them of the aging process. The facts are startling: the number 1 cause of accidental deaths among the elderly is falls at home! This is why Lifeline is so valuable. It ensures users that should they need it, fast emergency help is available at the touch of a portable button.

To help convince a reluctant loved one to accept Lifeline, you must often take both a logical and an emotional approach.

Logical:

  • 1 out of 4 elders falls at home annually.
  • Serious medical complications of falling are usually due to long delays in receiving help
  • Lifeline is like insurance: you may not use it today, but if you need it, you'll be glad you have it!
Emotional:
  • "Mom/Dad, I worry about you. Sometimes I lose sleep. Let's get Lifeline for me. It will help me sleep better at night."
  • "Let's try it for a month. If you don't like it, we'll take it back."
  • "Thousands of people who live alone have serious accidents every year. Mom/Dad, I don't want you to end up as another statistic!"
Common Misconceptions

Your parents or loved ones may have some common misconceptions about Lifeline. For example:

Myth: It's difficult to use.
Fact: Lifeline is easy to use! All you have to do is press your help button if you need help.
Myth: It's difficult to install.

Fact:

Lifeline plugs in like a telephone
Myth: It's too expensive.
Fact: Lifeline costs only about a dollar a day. Compare this to the cost of possible nursing home care ($150-$300/day) or medical care due to a serious injury from an accident ($400-$800/day).
Myth: It's just for the elderly.
Fact: No, it's not! Lifeline users range include "latchkey" children of age 7 or 8, women living alone, and people 103. Anyone at home alone for even part of the day can benefit from the security and peace of mind that Lifeline brings!
Myth: I already have a support network of neighbors and friends.
Fact: After a visit or call from a friend or relative, you are left unprotected. A phone call which ends at 8:00 PM leaves you vulnerable until a call or visit the next day. Lifeline protects you 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Myth: I'm not sick; therefore, I don't need it.
Fact: You need Lifeline before you have an accident, much like you need insurance before you get sick. The quick response from Lifeline can often prevent a minor accident from turning into a serious illness!
Myth: I don't want an ambulance showing up at my door if I fall.
Fact: That doesn't have to happen! Lifeline sends one of three responders who are neighbors, friends or relatives to check on you first. An ambulance is only called if necessary. Because of Lifeline's quick response, more than 99 out of 100 calls do not require an ambulance... just some friendly help.

Lifeline makes a perfect gift.

If your parent or loved one can't afford Lifeline, give it to him or her as a gift. It's a small price to pay for your peace of mind! With Lifeline, the user is in control. It can be used for emergencies only, or as a convenient speakerphone for normal conversations with friends and family.

RSVP: Remote Telephone Answering with a Speakerphone.

With Lifeline, your loved one won't have to rush to answer a ringing phone ever again! Just press the portable button when the phone rings, and the call is automatically answered over the built-in speakerphone.
