TRINITY HEALTH SYSTEM CELEBRATES ASTHMA AWARENESS MONTH
In the United States alone, almost seven million children have asthma, which is one of the most common, serious, chronic diseases of childhood. Asthma affects more than 23 million Americans and nearly 4,000 lives are cut short by this disease each year. Eleven Americans die every day from asthma. There are about 7,840 adults and 2,510 children in Jefferson County who are living with asthma. In addition, asthma is a leading cause of hospital emergency department visits and school absenteeism. Children miss nearly 15 million school days a year due to asthma.
In response to these alarming statistics, and in an effort to raise public awareness, Trinity Health System is joining the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to participate in the Asthma Awareness Month campaign. Trinity is sponsoring a coloring contest to promote awareness. Coloring pages can be obtained at Trinity's website www.trinityhealth.com or at Trinity West's front information desk (main entrance).
