TRINITY INVESTS IN NEW LAB TECHNOLOGY TO IMPROVE PATIENT CARE WITH HEART RHYTHM PROBLEMS

Trinity Health System recently announced the opening of their new Electrophysiology Lab which treats electrical problems of the heart. Trinity joins other hospitals like Ohio State University and Emory University in Georgia who also utilize the Omega Lab Techology. The Omega Lab has advanced clinical tools which are designed to provide high quality images of the heart (even 3D views) at reduced radiation levels. The system has the potential to reduce radiation exposure due to deflection by up to 4000 times versus older labs currently used in other hospitals. The lab uses pulsed variable fluoroscopy (x-rays) reducing the dose of radiation to the staff and patient. The high quality clinical tools give our physicians better visualization of the anatomy supporting complex procedures like atrial ablations," said Dr. Maninder Bedi, Lab Director. The 3D image increases the confidence in the location of the catheters during the procedures improving the efficiency of the lab speeding up the procedures for the patient. "Now patients can have the highest level of EP Lab technology in their own backyard without having to drive to Columbus or Pittsburgh," said Keith Murdock, Director of Community Relations and Development. "The new lab will improve patient and lab safety and allow us to do complex procedures like Atrial Fibrillation Ablation in Steubenville," added Murdock. Dr. Maninder Bedi and Dr. Kat Maleki, Board Certified Electrophysiologists, will provide many of the procedures performed in the EP Lab. Trinity also benefits from having local cardiologists including Dr. Cherian John, Dr. Ramana Murty, and Dr. Charn Nandra providing care in the EP Lab. The new Lab will improve the efficiency in the implantation of Pacemakers, Defibrillators (ICD's) and Bi-Ventricular Pacemakers for Heart Failure. Pacemakers are small devices implanted under the skin that assist in regulating heartbeats. Pacemakers are used in individuals with chronic heart problems which can cause slow heart rates and unstable heart rhythms. "The Lab will not only help Trinity and Steubenville, but the entire Ohio Valley community with improved safety and efficiency," Murdock said.
